Lincoln Land

Lincoln Land Amusement Park was a groundbreaking indoor amusement park located in Effingham, IL. Opened in 1977 by local developer Gene Mayhood, the park was adjacent to the Village Square Mall and spanned 100,000 square feet, making it one of the largest indoor amusement parks of its time.

The park featured a full-size Ferris wheel that nearly touched the ceiling, a giant carousel, the Scrambler, Tilt-a-Whirl, bumper cars, Astro-liner, and a moonwalk. A dedicated arcade area housed over 80 games, including Skee-Ball and various midway games. The second floor offered an 18-hole miniature golf course, a roller skating rink, and additional arcade games.

Lincoln Land also boasted a 1,000-seat auditorium for live entertainment, multiple food and refreshment areas, and a special Kiddie Land for younger children. Despite its popularity, the park closed in 1988 due to declining attendance and rising operational costs. The building has since been repurposed into the Lincoln Land Business Center.
