Welcome to Atlas Arcadia. By using this website, creating an account, or submitting content, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. Please read them carefully.

1. What Atlas Arcadia Is

Atlas Arcadia is a collaborative historical archive focused on arcade venues, amusement locations, tokens, and related materials. Users can create accounts, add new entries, edit existing entries, and help build a shared record of arcade history.

2. Your Account

To access certain features, you may need to create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Keep your password secure.
  • Be responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, abuse the site, or compromise the security or integrity of the archive.

3. User-Generated Content

Atlas Arcadia relies on user-generated content, including (but not limited to) location entries, token records, photos, descriptions, corrections, annotations, and other contributions.

Your Responsibilities

By submitting content, you agree that:

  • You have the rights, permissions, or licenses needed to share the content.
  • Your content does not infringe the rights of others (including copyrights, trademarks, or privacy rights).
  • Your content is not illegal, hateful, harassing, or malicious.
  • Your content is reasonably accurate to the best of your knowledge, especially for historical claims.

License You Grant to Atlas Arcadia

You retain ownership of your original content. However, when you submit content to Atlas Arcadia, you grant us a broad permission to use it so we can operate and grow the archive. Specifically, you grant Atlas Arcadia a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable license to:

  • Host, display, and publicly perform your content on the site.
  • Edit, format, and adapt your content for technical or editorial reasons.
  • Store and archive your content long-term as part of the historical record.
  • Include your content in nonprofit publications, research, and educational works.
  • Include your content in licensed or derivative works, including potential future collaborations with for-profit partners, provided that such use is consistent with preserving and sharing arcade history.

This license allows Atlas Arcadia to function as a durable, long-term archive.

4. Editing and Moderation

Atlas Arcadia may allow users to add and edit content, similar in spirit to a collaborative database or wiki. To maintain quality and integrity, we reserve the right to:

  • Review, approve, or reject user submissions.
  • Edit content for clarity, style, consistency, or correctness.
  • Remove spam, irrelevant, or abusive content.
  • Limit or revoke editing privileges for users who violate these Terms.

Because Atlas Arcadia is intended as a long-term historical archive, we may retain versions of content for reference even if it is updated or removed from public display.

5. Acceptable Use

When using Atlas Arcadia, you agree not to:

  • Attempt to hack, disrupt, or overload the site or its services.
  • Scrape or extract large portions of the database without prior written permission.
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation.
  • Upload viruses, malware, or other harmful code.
  • Post illegal content, hate speech, or harassment.
  • Use the site primarily for commercial advertising or unrelated promotions.

We may take action, including account suspension or content removal, if we believe these rules are violated.

6. Intellectual Property

Atlas Arcadia’s Content

The overall site design, logo, branding, and database structure are owned by Atlas Arcadia. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute the site’s structure or branding without permission.

Your Content

You own the original content you submit, but you grant Atlas Arcadia the license described above so that we can use, preserve, and share your contributions as part of the archive.

Archive Data and Licensing

Atlas Arcadia may, over time:

  • Release aggregated, anonymized, or curated datasets.
  • Partner with third parties to expand access to the archive.
  • License portions of the archive (including user contributions) to nonprofit or for-profit partners to further the mission of preserving arcade history.

We will not sell your personal account data. Any licensing or partnership will focus on the historical and archival content itself, not on selling personal information.

7. Future Nonprofit Operation

Atlas Arcadia is expected to operate as a nonprofit organization starting in 2026. In the future, there may be partnerships with or licensing to a related for-profit entity in order to support and grow the archive.

In such cases:

  • User accounts and personal data will remain protected under our Privacy Policy.
  • User-generated content will continue to be governed by the license you grant us under these Terms.
  • Your personal data will not be sold.

8. Newsletter and Communications

Starting in or after 2026, we may send newsletters or email updates about Atlas Arcadia, new features, or related projects. You will be able to opt out of these communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link in the email or updating your preferences.

9. Disclaimer

Atlas Arcadia is a historical archive built partly on user contributions. While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that all content is fully accurate or up to date. You understand and agree that:

  • Content may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information.
  • You should not rely on Atlas Arcadia as your sole source of factual information.

The site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Atlas Arcadia and its operators, contributors, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or service interruptions, arising out of or related to your use of the site.

This includes, without limitation, any damages resulting from:

  • Site downtime or technical issues.
  • Errors or inaccuracies in content.
  • Unauthorized access to or use of our servers.
  • Any bugs, viruses, or harmful code transmitted by third parties.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account or access to Atlas Arcadia at any time, with or without notice, if we believe:

  • You have violated these Terms.
  • Your actions risk harm to the site or its users.
  • We need to protect the integrity of the archive.

You may request to delete your account at any time, subject to our need to preserve certain historical or anonymized data as described in the Privacy Policy.

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For major changes, we may provide additional notice on the site.
